Yarn & Hook

Any type of yarn can be used for this project along with the yarn manufacturers recommendation of hook size. I chose to make my Jammy Dodger a little larger in size than the real biscuit (measuring approximately 8cm in diameter) and therefore used an aran weight yarn and a size 4 crochet hook to obtain this size.
This project works best if you use two different shades of yarn: Golden cream for the biscuit section and deep red for the strawberry jam filling.

(For this next round we continue to make the “Jammy Dodger Base” but also join it to the “jam filling”)

ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc)

Place the finished “Jam Filling” on top of the “Jammy Dodger Base” with the wrong sides facing one another (Picture C)

For the rest of this round, make sure you pass your hook through both the stitches on the“Jammy Dodger Base” and also the stitches on the “Jam filling”, joing the two pieces together.

hdc in same stitch as your ch 2, making sure to pass the hook also through the “Jam Filling”, hdc in next stitch.

Jammy Dodger Top (Biscuit coloured yarn)

Make a magic loop leaving a 6” tail, we will use this to shape the heart at the end of the project.

Round 1

ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc).
21 hdc into the Magic Loop.
Join with a sl st into 2nd chain of initial ch 2 to form a circle.
Pull the tail to make the magic loop smaller but not too tight.
The hole should measure approximately 1.5cm in diameter (22 sts)

Round 2

ch1 1 (counts as 1 sc) sc in the same stitch. sc in the next 2stitches.
*2 sc in next stitch, sc in next 2 stitches*
Repeat between * and * 9 times. (44 Stitches) (Picture G)

We are now going to join the ‘Jammy Dodger Top” onto our previously made “base with jam filling”
To do this: place the “Jammy Dodger top” on top of the base piece so that the jam (red yarn) shows through the hole.

Round 4

ch 1 (counts as 1 sc).
sc into remaining 43 stitches, making sure to pass your hook through the stitches of the “Jammy Dodger top” and the “Base with Jam Filling”.
(Picture H)

Cut your yarn leaving a 4” tail and pull the tail all the way through the stitch.

Thread the tail through your darning needle and insert the needle under both loops of the first chain from this round. (Picture I)
Pull the needle through, careful not to pull too tight.
Finally, insert your needle through the center of the last stitch from this round and pull your yarn through (Picture J). To create a seamless join.

To finish off

With your darning needle thread the long tail of yarn that is left over from the magic loop (Jammy Dodger Top)
Place a stitch through the very centre of the “jam”.(Picture K)
Repeat this several times until you have fashioned the circle into a heart shape you are happy with.
Sew in any remaining ends.
