Back to the hook!

Hello Lovelies!
It's been a tremendously long time since I last wrote a blog post. Gosh the last 9 months have been manic and far more unsettling than I had ever prepared for!

Time has seriously zoomed by and suddenly we are here...coming up to April ALREADY!
Only now is feeling like the right time to come back and visit my blog. I'm finally feeling that I have "the want" and the mental capacity to get back to it.
You see, I've been on this massive road of self discovery over the past year. Since finishing the job I loved and had done for years, back in April last year, I've needed a moment. Yes, I loved that job, but it had honestly chewed me up and spat me out! I was burnt out and not really sure of who or what I was without it. Deep stuff!

So the past year has been a whirl wind of time, a moment to recuperate, to ponder, to learn and take a long moment to find my feet again.
During this time I've done so much; I caught up with friends, came back to England to dance for 6 weeks, started training as a life coach, went to the Knit & Stitch Show at Alexandra Palace, went to Yarndale, moved country (downsized my life to a car load of belongings), moved flat (twice), made new friends, went on a date or two (yikes! not quite there yet!). It's been busy and quite a journey. A rollercoaster to say the least! Exciting times, moments of sheer panic, laughter and tears along the way and moments of pure brilliant optimism!
Now I'm here and things are settling and I feel like I can breath again. It's nice to be able to breath again. Breathing is good :-)

Along with everything that's been going on, I've put a huge amount of focus into setting up my own life coaching business.
This has taken a lot of energy and "going it alone" is a brand new experience for me, I'm learning every day.
Things are moving along nicely so far, sure I still need to build my client list and get my name out into the world, but it's proving to be a hugely positive and rewarding experience. I love the work I do with my clients, seeing them develop and grow in confidence as they move closer to their goals. It's very rewarding!

Below is a little shot of some of the postcards and business cards I've designed and been dishing out to people. I also have a website (mattfarci.com) if you want to check out what I'm up to? Also if you fancy learning a little more about life coaching or pondering with the idea of potentially having a coach, come pay me a visit. I offer a FREE sample session, so if it's something you are intrigued by, why not give it a go? At this early stage I could still do with the support...so please spread the word...ok shameless plug done!

So that's where I'm currently at!
As mentioned, my focus is very much on trying to elevate my new business venture and to establish myself back in England. It's hard work, but I know that things will come together with determination and some hard graft.

With everything being new and fresh, it felt like right time to visit something that was familiar. This morning I find myself at my laptop, finally writing a well overdue blog post.
Coming back to visit my blog is like visiting a friend you haven't seen in a while. It feels natural, but you realise that perhaps you should've made the time a little sooner.
I'm here now though! So, What have you all been up to and what exciting new projects are you all working on?

For me the crafting started again as the new year ticked over. I decided to make something just for fun and picked out one of my favourite crochet books to work from. It's (of course) "Animal Friends Of Pica Pau"! You're probably sick of me talking about how much I love this book! It is fab though!

So I had a little browse through the book, checked I had enough yarn in appropriate colours and got to work on the cute little dragon pattern.

He's not quite finished yet. Still some ears and horns to hook, but he's coming along nicely and will certainly be a loved addition to the other characters that I've already made from the book. I'll keep you updated on his progress!

The other project that I currently have on the go, is this gorgeous splurge of colour!
This is the stunning wrap by Nerissa from the blog MissNeriss.
Nerissa hosted a "crochet along" last month and as I happened to be lucky enough to own one of the Scheepjes Stone Washed/River Washed colour packs (all that was required for this project), I decided to join in.

Ok granted the "CAL" has now finished and I'm still plodding along, but it was nice to join in with so many other people that were also making the same project. It was great to have some interaction online with fellow makers and to join the buzz of creating in a community environment.

Nerissa's pattern and instruction are nice and easy to follow and so this project has been a great one to sit on the sofa with, whilst unwinding in the evenings.
I'm hoping to crack on with this throughout the next week or so and will keep you updated on it's progress. I'm so excited to get working on the blue and teal stripes. They are my favourite colours at the moment and I cant wait to play with theses shades as they pop up on the project!

Finally the big news that I have is that I've started writing for Inside Crochet Magazine each month, as a permanent columnist. I'm really enjoying this so far. It's certainly getting me creating again.
Having the monthly deadline has meant that I have a focus to my crafting, I like that. Here's your topic and the criteria of the article, now go, write and produce a pattern thats fits the mould. Oh and "here's your deadline"!
I work well to deadlines and so this is working out really well for me. The hardest thing about this though, is not being able to share my creations until the magazine has gone to print. That's been really tricky as so far. I've been tremendously happy and proud of my projects so far and have been desperate to share on instagram....Nope not allowed!!!

As soon as the magazines go to print I'll be sharing with you guys!! I already have two projects to share, so they'll be coming shortly!

That's about it for me, for now.
An ice breaker to say I'm here and I'm doing ok, finding my voice again and feeling like I have something to say.
Gosh as I write that I feel it bubbling inside of me, I really have something to give again. It's special to acknowledge that!
I hope you are all doing well also? if you get a moment leave me a message and I'll get back to you...I'm craving the crafty connection again!

  2. It's great to hear that you're in a good place right now. I'm happy for you!

This post got me thinking. About goals, creativity, deadlines and such. I was in a good place to after the read along, but I've lost it again and I haven't had the energy to find my way back on track. But the train of thoughts that you started seem to have led me somewhere. I tend to be too hung up on what I should do and what is expected of me. What others might think. When I really should focus on what I want to do. To do things that I'm proud of. Creatively or just any other aspect of my life. I'm glad to say I've picked up my hook again, it's been untouched for weeks and weeks, but yesterday I even started a new design and now I'm thinking about what giving some love to my poor neglected blog. You wrote this with perfect timing for me.

Best of luck with your new business, I bet you are a fabulous life coach Matt!
